Le loup qui ne voulait plus marcher

If you know me, it will come as no surprise to you that I should start with a book from this series: I am a huge fan of Loup!!! His character really appeals to me as the twists in the stories make me (and my pupils!) smile!

I use Loup stories successfully with pupils from Y3-Y8 but I am not saying you couldn’t earlier or later; please let me know if you try it!

I have used this book to introduce and/or reinforce the topic of means of transport before but you could also use it for hobbies. The other main topic in this book is the months in French as Loup tries a different way of getting around every month.

The pictures make it easy (nearly too easy in this case) to understand the story so there is little benefit in asking the pupils to listen and write in English which means of transport are being used if you are showing them. You could however read the story without showing the pictures and/or, if you have a visualiser (I love them so much!), get the children to try to pick out each month which word in French is for the means of transport.

You can also get the children to join in with an action for each method of transport as you are reading the story.

I have used this as a memory test/matching exercise too: you’ll be amazed at how good your pupils are at remembering which method is used which month! Mine are better than me and I have read the story many times!!

All in all, I strongly recommend this book: I can guarantee you and the children you read it to will love it!
