Did you know that we have a word in French for a young wild boar? Un marcassin!
OK, I understand that even if you are into children’s stories and puppets you may not own a young wild boar puppet… but even though it did inspire me to look for a book for it (I couldn’t have a puppet without a story!) owning the puppet is not essential to appreciate this tale!!
My parents and my aunt Martine attend the Festival Mondial des Théâtres de Marionnettes in Charleville Mézières, northern France, every year and bought me the hand puppet below as a present 2 years ago. How cute and original is it?! This is what young wild boars look like you know!

The book is full of simple but rich language which can be exploited, a page or 2 at a time. The illustrations are colourful and clear, thus aiding children’s understanding of the story.

Most of the story is written as a dialogue; it is therefore full of useful and informal phrases which the children will enjoy learning about and can be used as classroom language in the future.
