Poems in another language are great… and and not just for National Poetry Day in October!

Language of text: French
Type of text: Poem
Author or source: B. Casadesus
Intended age of students: Key Stage 2/3
Source reference: 2800628278

Approaches:

I am not highlighting any specific poems but there are several in this book which you could read to and with the children and they could then adapt it to write their own, which is always a worthwhile activity.

Rationale:
I like having a few simple poetry books which I can dip in and out of for National Poetry Day or for topic work; for instance in this book there is a fab poem called “Arc-en-ciel” and another one called “la pluie” which would help when learning about the weather.

Outcomes:
Poetry is I think first and foremost created to be read out loud. Poems are great to reinforce phonics and/or even introduce new sounds. Pupils can even have a go at reciting them afterwards.

Topics or themes:
This book will come in handy for National Poetry Day in October but also for the topics of weather, animals, holidays and Christmas… amongst others!

Grammar:
It depends on the poem chosen.

How much time required:

1-2 lessons

Happy Poetry Day… be it the National one or your own!!
