What Soledad (the illustrator) didn’t tell me when I met her in Paris in December is that Lili, who wrote the text for this book, is her 14-year old daughter! Great collaborative work!! To be fair she had a bad back that day and looked very uncomfortable sitting down signing books… Here is the picture Soledad still drew for Mini Miss Paris though!

Language of text: French
Type of text: picture book
Author or source: Lili & Soledad Bravi
Intended age of students: Key Stage 2/3
Source reference: 9782747065825

I want to share it with children who can join in with the onomatopoeia and do a lot of actions to help tell the story.

Rationale:
I want to use it with pupils because it is original (when did you last read a story about a pigeon?), it gets you thinking about being kind to all animals, about the importance of fitting in, of keeping going… The illustrations are very clear and the text understandable but also very rich.

Outcomes:
The children could try to come up with other objects which the pigeon may come across and could guess which animal he may want to be next; they may also think of other animals which are largely unloved and which other animals they may look up to and want to be. They may think of humans too…

Topics or themes:
A tour of Les Jardins du Luxembourg in Paris; SMSC

Grammar:
The imperfect tense; adjectives

How much time required: 1 lesson
